Introducing: Numbers for Parents!

In the first four weeks, we will focus on our math foundations, including mental math skills. In our analogy, we will think of this time as our time to get familiar with the tools we need as we make our ascent. We will go back to the very foundation of our math skills, first by discussing 

Place Value and Base 10 and practice skills like Doubles and Halves and Complements to the Base. 

As we move through elementary math, we will take some time to consider Multiplication Facts, including our favorite tricks for the really hard facts. In the 4th week, we will take our most significant deviation from the 'traditional' math sequence. 

After multiplication, students are usually introduce to Division and often take a lot of time practicing Long Division. Instead of long division, we will see a set of tools, called Divisibility tricks, that will allow us to take a more conceptual path into prealgebra. These Divisibility Tricks mirror the multiplication tricks and will allows us to find the factors of another number. Factoring is the skill we will develop along the rest of our journey. 

In weeks 5-8, we will explore why Factoring is such an important tool for our toolkit.
